VetNet Walk Results

April 19, 2017

In our last newsletter, we talked about the Working Wardrobes VetNet “Walk in Their Shoes” 5k walk and fun run scheduled for Saturday, March 25. Working Wardrobes helps men, women, Veterans and young adults overcome life challenges, including substance abuse, domestic violence, incarceration, homelessness, illness and financial loss. They launched the VetNet 5k walk and fun run to raise funds so Veterans can get valuable job training and take certification programs to secure employment, and lend some extra support to Veteran caregivers.

We’re proud to say that 35 of our Carrington Associates from Southern California participated in the event, making Carrington the second largest team to participate. We also contributed a total of $1,240 to the organization with the CCF board matching $100 per walker, an additional $3,500 to Working Wardrobes and VetNet!

Michael Barrett, Director, Carrington Security Company, was one of the participants in this year’s event. Not only was he impressed by his fellow Associates who showed up to participate and donate their time and money, but the experience meant a lot to him on a personal level.

“Seeing our Associates show up with this level of support is really gratifying,” said Michael. “As a retired Marine Corps Veteran, I fully understand the challenges a service member and their family faces when transitioning from the military to civilian life.”

It's a transition Michael knows all too well, as Michael himself is a retired Veteran. He’s dedicated to helping like-minded organizations that aim to support Veterans making their transition into civilian life, and believes Working Wardrobes will do their part to help Veterans throughout Orange County. Says Michael, “I will always support organizations that put our Veterans first, sometimes simply caring is all it takes.”

Even though this year’s VetNet Walk is finished, CCF is already looking forward to next year. Shelly Lawrence, Executive Director of Community Relations for Carrington Charitable Foundation, was incredibly pleased with the event results.

“We’re so proud of everyone who participated, and are so grateful for the overwhelming support for Working Wardrobes and their VetNet program,” Shelly shared. “We look forward to hosting an even bigger team next year!”

Many thanks and congratulations to everyone who participated in the VetNet walk and fun run!
