Register Now for Boxes for Our Troops

April 07, 2019

Look for “We Support Our Troops” posters in your office very soon. They’ll be up this month and next for Associates to sign with messages of encouragement for those serving in the U.S. armed forces. When we send the next round of Boxes for Our Troops overseas in June, we’ll include cards made from photos of these posters to let our active duty service members know that we’re thinking of them and sending support.

You’ll see posters in these locations: Aliso Viejo, CA; Anaheim, CA; Windsor, CT; Greenwich, CT; Brentwood, TN; Westfield, IN; Plano, TX; and Jacksonville, FL. Add your message and signature as soon as you can. Then get started on the BFOT drive. Deadline to register is May 1. (Late team submissions will be welcomed, but they will have to contact Shelly Lawrence directly.) Addresses where boxes are to be shipped will be assigned to each team by May 6. All boxes must be packed by June 15 (we’ve extended the deadline) and then be mailed ASAP.

What are the Boxes for Our Troops? It’s another part of the Carrington Charitable Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting U.S. military men and women serving abroad. This year marks the tenth year for our participation in the program, and we’re hoping to increase the number of boxes shipped from the more than 1,000 boxes sent in 2018 from the nine major Carrington offices to grateful active-duty troops serving around the world.

The purpose of the drive is to send some little comforts of home to service members in far-flung locales. Box contents can include non-perishable snack foods (nothing that could melt or spoil, including chocolate and peanuts), breakfast cereals, board games and puzzles, footballs and baseballs and a variety of current books and magazines. Dollar store items like sunblock, travel-sized toiletries, bath soaps, baby powder and wipes, tissue packs, hand sanitizer, lip balm and small toys for children are also appreciated. Many Carrington teams also personalize their boxes with handwritten notes, photos and greeting cards.

Each box-filling team will be assigned a specific military outfit overseas. We like to make this a friendly company-wide competition, too, so the team that ships the most boxes by the June 15 deadline will receive a nice treat (in the past it’s been a catered breakfast or lunch in the office).

If you have friends or loved ones in any of the five branches of the military serving abroad to whom you'd like to send boxes, email their names and addresses directly to Shelly Lawrence by May 1. They must be military addresses of active service members deployed overseas. No U.S. addresses will be accepted.

Once you're registered, your team leader will receive instructions on how to get the special USPS flat-rate boxes and forms. Outside fundraising is encouraged. Get friends and family involved.

Are you up for the challenge? Click here to register your team by May 1. Deadline for shipping is June 15. Get packing!
