Next Month: Animal Rescue and Shelter Awareness Month
August is just around the corner, and so is our monthly charitable focus: Animal Rescue and Shelter Awareness Month. Approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. The good news? It’s estimated that the number of dogs and cats entering U.S. shelters annually has declined from approximately 7.2 million in 2011. The biggest decline was in dogs (from 3.9 million to 3.3 million). And approximately 3.2 million shelter animals are adopted each year (1.6 million dogs and 1.6 million cats). These numbers show there are a lot of animals and shelters that need our help.
Please lend a hand to our furry and feathered friends needing a safe place to thrive on Saturday, Aug. 19, as we recognize International Homeless Animals Day. Other events during the month include International Assistance Dog Week, Aug. 6 - 12; International Cat Day on Tuesday, Aug. 8; National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day on Aug. 22; and National Dog Day on Saturday, Aug. 26.
If you volunteer with an animal shelter or rescue organization, or have any suggestions for events or initiatives we can implement to support our August charitable initiative, reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Let’s give our adoptable furry and feathered friends – and those who care for them – some extra support and love!
