Get Ready for 2018: Big Events Coming Up

January 15, 2018

Great volunteer opportunities are all over the calendar this year. In addition to the Run Ranger Run event in February 1, don’t forget these:

March Madness Bracket Challenge.
March Madness got its start in an Illinois high school basketball tourney in 1908. A sports official in that state penned an article about the excitement around the sport, writing “A little March madness may complement and contribute to sanity and help keep society on an even keel.” We agree! And in that spirit, we are forming March Madness Brackets for a Cause to raise money during the playoffs among the 68 NCAA basketball teams as they dribble and shoot toward a national championship. The “brackets” are the pairings of teams as they advance. Donate $5 and fill out your brackets, predicting which teams will play each other right up to the end. If your bracket is closest to how March Madness 2018 plays out, you’ll win a special prize from CCF and get to decide which non-profit organization receives the money raised.

The CCF Gala in June.
This year’s CCF Gala will be held on the evening of June 16, 2018, at Belle Haven Club in Greenwich, Connecticut. The first CCF Gala in June 2017 was such a success, raising more than $575,000 for CCF’s Veteran-related charitable initiatives, the second was immediately put on the schedule.

“The first gala was very exciting, and we were extremely grateful for the support we received on the East Coast for this event,” says CCF’s Executive Director of Community Relations Shelly Lawrence. “We expect to welcome new Veterans and community supporters this year. It’s sure to be a special evening.”

The Gala will include a cocktail hour, dinner and an auction of vacations and unique experiences (such as three days of golf or dinner with a celebrity). Table sponsorships and individual tickets go on sale this spring. Watch for info in upcoming newsletters.

Special Olympics in June.
This year’s Special Olympics USA Games will take place July 1-6, 2018, in Seattle. More than 4,000 athletes and coaches from 50 state programs and the District of Columbia will take part, along with thousands of volunteers and attendees. The event sees athletes compete in 14 Olympic-type team and individual sports.

CCF has supported Special Olympics for years, not just the national Games but the qualifiers in locations near Carrington offices nationwide. Carrington Associates were active volunteers at the 2017 USA Games in Long Beach, California, and we encourage you to get involved with Special Olympics where you are. Find out how here.
