Get Involved with the CCF Golf Classic

September 09, 2017

We’re just about a month away from the 7th annual Carrington Charitable Foundation Golf Classic, taking place on Monday, October 9th at The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, CA. If previous years are any indication, there’s no doubt that this year’s event will be both fun and tremendously powerful, as we all come together for a wonderful day of golf with some of our nation’s celebrated Veterans, and cap off the day with a banquet in honor of our featured Veterans.

And although we want to make sure everyone has fun golfing and enjoys the evening festivities, the reason why we do the Golf Classic every year is to support our returning Veterans as they transition into civilian life and focus on their career after service. We do this by raising funds for our Signature Programs: Carrington House provides housing for catastrophically injured heroes and their families. We also support the Veteran’s Airlift Command, which works with a network of volunteer pilots who provide air transportation for these Veterans and their families to medical facilities where Veterans are receiving treatment. And this year, we launched the Veteran Support Program to help Veterans prepare for job opportunities through interview coaching and creating resumes, providing business coaching and nurturing their entrepreneurial spirit and much more.

Of course, we couldn’t do this without your help. Buying tickets and participating in event sponsorship opportunities is what helps us create these programs and support like-minded Veteran organizations. Sponsorship opportunities and tickets are available here. To date, we still have open spaces for event sponsors, course sponsors, night golf sponsors, contest hole sponsors and more. Sponsorships help us make a difference in the lives of so many Veterans, as do our fundraising efforts leading up to the event – and we need your help.

“We encourage our associates, donors and supporters to reach out to their friends to invite them to participate in the tournament,” says Shelly Lawrence, Executive Director of Community Relations for the Carrington Charitable Foundation. “All the money raised at the tournament goes directly toward our Veteran Focused Signature Programs.  Without the support of all the donors at the Golf Classic, we wouldn’t be able to touch as many lives as we have.”

Some of the ways people can get involved in fundraising include reaching out to our partnering networks to get people involved, Associates putting together auction baskets for the silent auction at the evening banquet, and donors donating items for the auction.

“People can also volunteer, or get together with a team and donate a basket to the Silent Auction,” says Shelly. “And they can fundraise and donate to the Tournament to help support our Veterans. We’re hoping to continue to raise impressive amounts like last year’s total of $2.2 million!”

That money directly supports programs benefiting our nation’s heroes, some of whom will be attending this year’s Golf Classic. The Veterans at this year’s event include U.S. Army Sergeant Andrew Smith, U.S. Marine Corps First Sergeant Ben Holmes, U.S. Army Master Sergeant Cedric King, U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Cory Remsburg, U.S. Army Master Sergeant David Glenn, U.S. Army Sergeant Franz Walkup, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Jason Pepper, U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Jason Ross, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Jesse Clingman, U.S. Army Master Sergeant John Masson, U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Johnnie Yellock, U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Mark Litynski, and U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Michael Frazier.

Leading up to the Golf Classic, CCF is posting updates to our Facebook page, including our Tribute Tuesday posts, which highlight each of these Veterans, detailing their journeys overseas and their powerful return home. We hope you’ll come to appreciate these Veterans and their sacrifices as we do, and know them for the heroic, giving and amazing people they are.
