Team Baker in Action/Ronald McDonald House in Westfield

June 15, 2019

Visiting the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Indiana in Indianapolis was so nice that Team Baker decided to do it twice, following in the steps of Team Palacios, who’ve volunteered here three times. The CMS Bankruptcy Team also volunteered here in May.

On June 5, six Associates with Team Baker dug in for landscaping and maintenance work around the outside gardens and the playground at this facility, which provides meals and no-to-low-cost lodging for a supportive "home-away-from-home" for families of children receiving medical care at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, and other area hospitals. Families staying at Ronald McDonald Houses have a place to stay and are served meals every day – and they’re just moments away from their hospitalized children.

Lidices Rojas says this team has been working with this Ronald McDonald House in several capacities during the past three years:  “We’ve not only been cleaning up the facilities, but preparing and freezing meals for visiting families. These fresh meals help them as they visit their kids at the hospital. It’s a very special place where we can help support families coming from all over Indiana, so their children can receive treatment. They shouldn’t be worried about where they’re going to eat.”

The group from the CMS Bankruptcy Team got busy with cleaning and organizing at the house during their volunteering day in May, including tossing expired food items, disinfecting toys and putting together welcome bags for incoming guests. At the end of the day, they were able to get a tour of the entire house, as well as love on the resident dog, Mac. They report that it was a great experience, and they plan to return soon and often.
