Holiday Giving Ideas for Everyone

November 23, 2020

The holiday season is almost here, so it’s time to ramp up our holiday spirit and let the giving begin! Carrington Charitable Foundation has a distinguished history of working with Associates and deserving nonprofit organizations to give back to the communities where we work and live.

Although the at-risk and disadvantaged need our help throughout the year, the holiday season is a time when their needs are particularly acute. Here are some wonderful options for Associates. Pick your favorite and give to these deserving nonprofits!

is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. It was created in 2012 as a simple idea – a day that encourages people to do good. GivingTuesday is held annually the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and this year, it takes place on December 1, 2020. You’ll find more info here, and events near you hereAnd if you can, please consider making a donation to CCF. CCF supports nonprofit organizations and communities across the U.S. through causes that reflect the interests of Carrington leaders and our Associates. You can make a donation online here.

Cyber Monday takes place the Monday after Thanksgiving, this year falling on November 30. Cyber Monday was created by retailers to encourage people to shop online and it is renowned for special deals and great prices. Check with your favorite nonprofits – local and elsewhere – see what they need, and then give generously from the comfort of your home, and the safety of your keyboard. If you happen to be shopping on Amazon on Cyber Monday, remember Amazon Smile (see details below).

CASA Orange County. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates and CCF is proud to support this organization in Orange County. For the past several years, Associates in Anaheim and Aliso Viejo have contributed to the CASA Holiday Donation Campaign. This year, Associates everywhere can join in to help.

The children of CASA Orange County are some of the county's most severely abused, abandoned and neglected children who have been placed in foster care for their own protection. We want to do whatever we can to help these children have a great holiday season.

Due the current pandemic, the CASA Holiday Gift Drive looks a little different than in years past to ensure everyone's safety. However, this incredible organization still needs our support. Here's how you can help these foster care children:

● Every CASA Gift Request is for a $25 Amazon Gift Card.
● Associates can purchase gift cards digitally through CCF's brand new CASA App. You can access the app here in SharePoint. When using the app for the first time, you'll see a popup from SharePoint asking you to allow a connection to email. You will then need to click “allow" to continue.
● Once all gift cards have been purchased by Associates, CCF will coordinate the delivery of all the donated gift cards directly through Amazon, and mail them to CASA Headquarters.

This year's CASA drive runs through December 1st. Let us know at if you would like to help other CASA offices nationwide via donations. You can also donate to the CASA General Fund. Please reach out to with any questions. If you have any trouble using the app, please contact Shelly Lawrence, and she will personally help you reserve a CASA Snowflake!

Amazon Smile. The AmazonSmile program is a great way to give to the Carrington Charitable Foundation every time you shop with Amazon. When you make eligible purchases through this program, you will help to make a difference for the organizations and people that CCF supports. Click here for details about AmazonSmile. You'll find CCF's unique AmazonSmile link here (please remember to try the link from home).

If you've never used AmazonSmile, the first time you select the link you'll be directed to and asked if you want to support Carrington Charitable Foundation. Once you select CCF, 0.5% of the price of all your eligible purchases will benefit us. It's important to go to instead of when you shop, as only purchases made through this program are eligible for donations.

AmazonSmile in the Amazon Shopping app. You can now support CCF on iPhone & Android phones. Check out this super short how-to article for how to set it up! Thank you for considering using Amazon Smile to support CCF!

Toys for Tots & More. The U.S. Marines Toys for Tots Program has been delivering a message of hope – and lots of terrific toys – to less fortunate youngsters since 1947. If you want to participate in Toys for Tots at your Carrington location, email Shelly Lawrence, and we will get you set up for this holiday season. And if there is another holiday giving effort you want to participate in or share with other Associates, contact Shelly and we’ll help you set it up.

Wreaths Across America. Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies as a way to honor Veterans who have nobly served our country. Wreath-laying ceremonies are conducted at more than 2100 locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. This year’s event takes place on December 19. For more information about this worthy organization or to sponsor a wreath, please click here.

Can you join CCF and the Associates around you to help the less fortunate this holiday season? If you don’t see your Carrington location below, please contact Shelly Lawrence to let her know of your office’s Holiday initiative, or if you are looking for ways to give back this season. Thank you for doing whatever you can to make the holidays merry, and make a difference for a deserving family or child!

Illumination Foundation. The Illumination Foundation Holiday Toy Drive is collecting new, unwrapped toys for children and teens of all ages. The nonprofit Illumination Foundation provides targeted, interdisciplinary services for the most vulnerable homeless adults and children to break the cycle of homelessness. Collection bins are set up in building lobbies. Please turn in your items by Friday, Dec. 6.

Greenwich Associates can participate in the local U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. In 2019, the Stamford program distributed 22,244 toys to more than 17,000 deserving local children. If you want to help or have toys to donate, contact local Toys for Tots Coordinator George Ducanic at or 203-359-9662. You can also donate online here.

Christmas Cops. For the past four years, our Plano, TX location has participated in the Plano Police Association’s Christmas Cops. Unfortunately, since our teams are working remotely, we won’t be adopting individual families this year. However, the Plano Police Association has put together these ways to give:

  1. ● The super easy option to give: Associates can also donate to Christmas Cops online using PayPal here.
  2. ● The Plano Police Association has created a registry of the most needed items on Amazon, Target, and Walmart Associates can go to the registry on each website, choose and purchase an item and have it shipped directly to the Plano Police Association. Or they can ship to their own home and then drop the item(s) at any police or fire station.
  3. ● The Plano Police Association will also accept gift cards in dominations of $25 or less. Each department can set a goal for the department and collect contributions for gift cards and donate gift cards to the police department. Once the team has decided on the amount and purchased gift cards, they should be mailed to:

Plano Police Dept.
909 14th Street
Plano, TX 75074
Attn: Christmas Cops.

Plano Associates will coordinate with their department managers to participate in the Christmas Cops Program. A department may select the options they’d like to participate in. All donations are sent to the Plano Police Association.

Westfield Associates can donate to the Hoosier Veteran Assistance Foundation (HVAF) and U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program to give back to local heroes who have served our country, and our local less-fortunate kids.

Toys will be collected during a contactless drive through donation event at our Westfield Campus parking lot on December 12 from 8 a.m to 12 noon. There will be two separate stations with bins – one for HVAF and one for Toys for Tots. Contributors will drive through the cones set up in the parking lot and either place donations in the bins or open their trunk and one of the volunteer managers working the event will remove the donations from the car and place in the donation bins. All CDC and Carrington guidelines will be followed, which include, but are not limited to:

  • ● Facemasks are required for everyone. No exceptions.
  • ● Gloves will be worn by everyone working the event.
  • ● Two separate donation bins will help guarantee social distancing.
  • ● Anyone who feels ill or presents symptoms should not participate.
  • ● This is not a socializing event, and contributors may not linger in the parking lot.

For any questions about this event, please contact Jhonatan Hernandez, who will drop off all donations to HVAF and Toys for Tots.
